ANGELA EASSON – ‘LITTLE GIRL DREAMS’

‘Little Girl Dreams’ is the third single release from singer-songwriter Angela Easson’s debut album “Wanted”. Written from a child’s perspective, the Adelaide-based artist wanted the song to represent creation and imagination, like playing in a child’s world, where everything is seen through rose coloured glasses. Angela wanted to capture the innocence and oblivion from all the bad stuff that can happen in this world, essentially how children should live.

“She’s having little girl dreams, oh little girl dreams of flowers and horses with wings, when she wakes up, things aren’t what they seem, take me back to little girl dreams”, Angela Easson Little Girl Dreams, 2015

Angela’s own little girl dreams started off when she would sing along to the radio complete with plastic microphone. The little voice you hear at the end of the song is her daughter Chloe, both her and son Lachie appear in the soon-to-be-released video clip created by The Filmery.

The 2010 CMAA Country Music Academy graduate began singing at the age of 10 when she fell in love with country music after attending her first country music event in Mount Gambier, SA. Moving to Adelaide in 1997, she has worked with many South Australian musicians, branching into different genres including pop, jazz and blues. Angela is an active member in the community, including the lead vocalist for the Onkaparinga Big Band.

Angela’s natural song-writing abilities were celebrated in 2010 after winning the South Australian APRA Modern Country Song Of The Year and the South Australian APRA Overall Country Song of The Year with her song ‘Forget To Forget You’. The accolades keep coming as Angela is nominated in the “Most Popular Country Artist” category of the 2016 South Australian Music Awards, with the Top 5 finalists being announced in early October.

Recently returning to perform as part of ‘Country Gold’ at Adelaide’s Her Majesty’s Theatre alongside Amber Joy Poulton & Dave Prior, Angela is now gearing up for the Mildura Country Music Festival. And after a whopping 17 shows at the 2016 Tamworth Country Music Festival, she will return in 2017.

LUELLA – ‘CATHERINE’

‘Catherine’ is the first single from Luella’s new album “Around Me” to be released later this month. Recorded at Pacific International Music, it is a live studio album with five originals and five most requested live gig covers including ‘Leaving On A Jet Plane’, ‘Me And Bobby McGee’ and ‘Hallelujah’.

‘Catherine’ was written about a friend of Luella’s, based on a scheme conjured up by her husband and the Brisbane-based singer-songwriter. Catherine’s husband wanted to immortalise his wife in song after 36 years of marriage. The song was kept a secret while it was written and recorded over five months. When the final product was ready, a plaque with the lyrics and a live performance of the song were presented to Catherine.

Luella was awarded the ‘Singer Universe Best Vocalist Of The Month’ with her last release, 2012’s ‘Not Thinking About You’. And previous single ‘Mother’s Love’ enjoyed 12 weeks on the Country Tracks chart. Since then Luella has continued to perform live at many events across Australia including the Tamworth Country Music Festival, Gympie Music Muster, Mud Bulls & Music and the Winton Outback Festival.

The artist who grew up in Collinsville, North Queensland, has been performing her style of country blues soul since the age of 13. She’s performed alongside James Blundell, Troy Cassar-Daley, Adam Harvey, Lee Kernaghan and in 2000 she joined The Blue Heeler Band as front woman and continues to work with them today.

With her parents support since the early days of performing in the family backyard, Luella realises she was blessed when they would spend their hard earned money and spare time on getting her to gigs and competitions. Before leaving school she had already won two song-writing awards, many ‘battle of the bands’ and had a cabinet-full of trophies. Once she left school the big questions of how to pursue her musical dream living in a small town were answered; when she received a call from the legendary Brian Young to join his touring show.

Luella received her apprenticeship in country music while traveling around Australia, performing almost every single night over four months and 55,000 kilometres. She performed in pubs, clubs, festivals and many Indigenous communities. During tour breaks, Luella recorded her first album and had her first charting single at the age of 18.

KRISTY JAMES ‘ALL ALONE’

Kristy James is back with new single, ‘All Alone’ – the second single from her upcoming debut album and follow-up to ‘Friends Like You’. This single, was written 12 years ago and Kristy admits, at a time when she was feeling sorry for herself.

‘All Alone’ is the story of a girl who feels like she is hard done by, she is especially mad that she can’t move on while he can move on so easily. While Kristy sings, “you took everything from me, you’re the lucky one” her realisation of being alone cuts so deep that you feel the pain, the raw emotion and the pleading in every word.

The single has been given the video treatment by Matt Gill. Shot at Newcastle’s iconic ‘The Great Northern Hotel’, the building is 145 years old and has survived depressions, recessions, floods and earthquakes.

Making her start at the Steel City Country Music Club, Kristy’s music has since been featured on three ABC Music compilation discs. Her first EP “Nobody’s Gonna Make Me” debuted & peaked at #2 on the iTunes Top Country Albums Chart and her last single, ‘Friends Like You’ followed the welcomed tradition.

Kristy is currently rehearsing with her newly-formed permanent band preparing to take her new music on the road towards the end of the year.

NICK PAYNE

‘Rising River’ is the follow-up single to ‘Old Sydney Town’ from Nick Payne, singer/songwriter/guitarist of Sydney folk/bluegrass act Dear Orphans. This track is the 2nd from Nick’s as yet to be named debut solo album.

‘Rising River’ is a murder ballad — or cautionary tale — about a man running from the police, and trying to find his ex-girlfriend to exact revenge on her.

Set in the 1860s, somewhere in the Snowy Mountains and Victorian High Country, the protagonist has camped overnight at a river. It’s morning and he’s gearing up to keep riding, but the river is rising and he needs to hurry to cross over, so that he can achieve his revenge. Does he cross the river or does he shy away from his path, in which case he’ll be caught by the police? The song is ultimately about the making of choices.

The track was inspired by the huts of the Snowy Mountains and Victorian High Country, where Nick has spent many Christmas/New Year’s holidays. Joining others, Nick and his friends maintain the huts in the Geehi/Swampy Plains area. A spaghetti western inspired video is planned for later in the year featuring Dan Stanley Freeman (bass – Fanny Lumsden & The Thrillseekers) as the central character and Fanny Lumsden as the intended victim.

As with ‘Old Sydney Town’, ‘Rising River’ was recorded in the lounge room of the Dear Orphans dobro/mandolin player Jolyon Gray. Double bass, mandolin, fiddle, acoustic guitar, and Nick’s vocals were recorded live in the same take, and all in the same room. Backing vocals, snare, and out of tune/honky tonk piano were added later. The tracks were recording this way to capture a sound that reflected and sounded like a real performance.

The piano was a gift from Nick’s mother when he was just 8 years old. It’s been out of tune for a very long time when Nick recently decided to try and tune it himself. It took a whole weekend, but he managed to get it close enough that it was perfect for this track.

Nick’s debut solo album has two sides – A and B. Side A features songs set in the present as played by himself with some current and former members of The Wildes. Side B features songs set in the past and played with traditional instrumentation by Dear Orphans and other friends.

Not only are the songs in the past and the present, each song on each side is a pair with the equivalent song on the other side, and those two songs have a common theme. For example, ‘Rising River’, a song of revenge, is song 2 on side B coupled with ‘Enemy’ song 2 on side A – a co-write with Karl Broadie that involves the main figure driving a semitrailer through his nemesis’ house.

The album, being produced by Nick and Lyn Taylor (Dear Orphans), is almost complete with 8 of the 12 tracks recorded with mixing and mastering by Glenn Santry at Heartbeat Studios.

Shea Fisher – ‘Tough’

This Portland (VIC) born/Maroochydoore (QLD) raised artist is back with a brand new single, Tough. An ode to a country girl’s Mr Right, Shea is sure that this upbeat, fun song is one most Aussie girls will be able to relate to. The track was co-written with Bridgette Tatum (Jason Aldean) and Kristy Lee Cook (American Idol finalist).

The Tough video clip is now playing on the Country Music Channel – VIEW HERE

Since her last single release ‘Move on’, in 2013, Shea has been working on new material which will be released in the form a full-length album next year through ABC Music. Tough is the 1st single to be released from the as-yet-untitled album.

Shea feels blessed to have worked with some of Nashville’s elite songwriters including Bridgette, Pat Alger (Garth Brooks) & Tim Owen (Brad Paisley). As a young girl dreaming of making country music her career, she never imagined sharing the stage with Travis Tritt, Luke Bryan and Kenny Chesney but she has done just that and more.

With a six-time Australian champion bull-rider for a dad and Australian champion barrel-racer for a mum, not many were surprised when Shea also won several Australian rodeo titles. This Queenslander not only sings about country life she lives it – Shea grew up on the rodeo circuit, winning both Australian and American titles and loves nothing more than saddling up her horse and going for a ride.

In 2007, at just 16, Shea had signed a record deal with ABC Music and released her debut album, Everyday Girl, reaping two #1 singles. Her second album, Shea was released two years later and by then the singer-songwriter had four #1 singles to add to her musical triumphs.

When Shea isn’t performing or creating new music, she works on several TV networks, is a fashion model, health & fitness expert and a jewelry and buckle designer. In 2013, Shea married Tyson Durfey, an eight-time National Finals Rodeo qualifier and has since divided her time between her home state of Queensland and her now adopted home of Texas USA.

‘FRIENDS LIKE YOU’ FROM KRISTY JAMES

‘Friends Like You’, the latest single from Kristy James, is an edgy, catchy and fast moving tale of best friends who confide in and trust each other. But inevitably it ends bitterly. The story behind the song is filled with raw emotion when she finds out that the other woman is in fact her best friend.

The singer-songwriter has once again called upon the talents of ARIA award winning producer Simon Johnson at Hillbilly Hut. ‘Friends Like You’ is the first single from Kristy’s upcoming debut album.

Being a part of the music industry for as long as she can remember, Kristy made her start at the Steel City Country Music Club with the likes of Catherine Britt and Kirsty Lee Akers. She won her first quest – The Junior Junior Vocal at just 11 years old. The artist has since amassed over 60 trophies to her name.

View the ‘Friends Like You’ video on YOUTUBE

In 2009, the Newcastle born and bred artist reached the first round finals of Telstra Road To Tamworth and then went on to release her debut single, ‘Overdrive’ followed by debut EP “Nobody’s Gonna Make Me”, which peaked at #2 on the iTunes Country Top Albums chart – only Taylor Swift kept her from the top spot. ‘Friends Like You’ has since matched that chart position on the iTunes Country Top Songs chart – this time the elusive #1 was foiled by Carrie Underwood.

Career highlights have included performing at the Port Stephens Country Music festival, Blue Water Country Music Festival, Central Coast Country Music Festival, Monkerai BnS, Ariah Park BnS and she can add Country At Caves to that list this weekend.

IAN BURNS – GOD GAVE ME WINGS

The new single, ‘God Gave Me Wings’ from Ian Burns is all about chasing your dreams and giving it 100%. This is the first single to be lifted from the new album “Want To Sing” which features another ten self-penned tracks.

Ian has once again used the talents of producer Doug Bruce at Shoo Fly Studios and musicians Mark D’Rozario on guitar, Rusty Cochrane on bass, Vaughan Jones on keys and David Spires on pedal steel. The producer himself is also on drums and backing vocals.

“There always will be mountains and there always will be walls and the ones who will succeed are the ones who’ll take the falls” – ‘God Gave Me Wings’, Ian Burns, February 2016

After busing on the streets of Tamworth at the Country Music Festival last year, Ian returned in 2016 with a jam-packed schedule. This included live radio interviews and performances including at three Tamworth Songwriters Association showcases.

Based in the Macarthur NSW region, Ian is an equine therapist by day. Using acupuncture and laser therapy to repair injured racehorses and performance horses, Ian ensures the animals are back competing as soon as possible. Multiple Olympic competition horses and Group 1 winning racehorses are amongst his clientele.

When he’s not working or singing, Ian enjoys competing in endurance horse riding – whereby competitors ride over distances of 80 – 160kms. Nowadays, Ian mainly competes over distances of 80 – 100kms but has previously successfully completed a “Tom Quilty”. This is a national endurance ride championship to be completed in under 24 hours and is run across difficult terrain over a distance of 160kms. Ian regards his “Quilty Buckle” as one of his proudest achievements.

The singer-songwriter released his debut EP “Good Friends” in January 2015 which included the radio single, ‘The Boundary Rider’. A video clip was made for this track by Paul Denham Imagery. Capturing stunning Australian landscapes while Ian rides stock horse ‘Maggie’ and is accompanied by a friend’s faithful companion ‘Boots’ – if you haven’t seen the clip, CLICK HERE

JOHN KRSULJA – IN A HEARTBEAT

‘In A Heartbeat’ – the debut single from John Krsulja is a duet with Katie Brianna and co-written with Kerrie Garside and Golden Guitar winners Luke O’Shea and Lachlan Bryan. The track is based on the true love story of Joy Reid, who as a young Aboriginal woman met and fell in love at 16 with her first love Daryl Wilson. The pair were unable to be together because it was, “Back in the day when nice white boys never had black girlfriends”, says Aunty Joy.

After 40 years Daryl contacted Aunty Joy, they agreed to meet at Maitland Railway Station and as Daryl held Joy, their love came back to them… ‘In A Heartbeat’. Still together now, you can learn more about their love story from ABC Radio’s ‘Meet The Mob’ CLICK HERE

‘In A Heartbeat’ is the first single from John’s debut album “Travellin’” which was produced by friend and mentor Karl Broadie. The album was recorded at the Cliff Tops of Sydney and at The DAG Sheep Station, Nundle – owned by John Krsulja or John K, as he’s better known to his friends. After years of travelling around the world and Australia, John settled in Tamworth, Australia’s Country Music Capital with his wife Belinda and their two little girls Brooke and Jade. It was at The DAG, inspired by all the artists he has met over the years, that John K resurrected his 20 year love for song writing and performing. Recently released, “Travellin’” is the result of this love and time.

“In a world where authenticity is in short supply and the music ‘biz’ awash with fakery on all sides, John Krsulja’s debut album “Travellin’” arrives as a welcome blast of honesty and integrity. The songs are heartfelt and real, full of fine words on family and life, rendered by John in a voice that is warm and convincing. The songs are wrapped in a suitably tasteful Karl Broadie production palette allowing the songs and the spirit to cut through the babble and white noise of modern life. They deserve to be heard.”

Michael Roberts (MBE) – Producer, Musician aka ‘Mickey Blue Eyes’

ANGELA EASSON – ‘ONCE UPON A TIME’

Adelaide-based singer-songwriter Angela Easson releases ‘Once Upon A Time’ – the first single from her upcoming debut album “Wanted”, due for release on November 13th. This self-penned track was inspired when reflecting back on her first real love and to where she is today.

The new music was recorded with producer Rob Mackay (Luke O’Shea, Tanya Self, Kaylee Bell) of Pacific International Music in both Queensland’s Hervey Bay and country music capital Nashville, USA. All 12 remaining tracks on “Wanted” were also written by Angela, a 2010 CMAA Country Music Academy graduate.

Angela began singing at the age of 10 when she fell in love with country music after attending her first country music event in Mount Gambier, SA. Moving to Adelaide in 1997, she has worked with many South Australian musicians, branching into different genres including pop, jazz and blues. Angela’s many accolades include being crowned the international winner of the 2010 Trans-Tasman Entertainer Of The Year award by the Norfolk Island Country Music Association and the 2009 South Australian Senior Champion Of Champions. 2011 saw Angela named a Toyota Star Maker finalist and the release of her self-titled debut EP.

Angela’s natural song-writing abilities were celebrated in 2010 after winning the South Australian APRA Modern Country Song Of The Year and the South Australian APRA Overall Country Song of The Year with her song ‘Forget To Forget You’.

Influenced by her country music female idols Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, and Kacey Musgraves, Angela now looks forward to sharing her new release. “I’m excited to release this new music and get it out there for people to listen too.
