THE LONG AND SHORT OF IT
One would imagine, new single from The Long And Short Of It, ‘Beatles Without John’, could possibly be a tribute to the fab four. And while the duo’s lead vocalist/guitarist David does cite them as one of his influences, after listening to the lyrics, it becomes apparent that this is actually a love song.
As one voice sings to a lost lover that her absence makes him feel like the Beatles without John: “There’d be no Beatles without John, and there’s no harmonies since you’ve been gone – I’m just a sad song.” This track also offers up some of the best organ work on the album, whispering on top of the shuffle percussion.
This track is the 2nd single to be released from “You Made Me Stronger” – the duo’s fifth album. After working on original material and sifting through 2000 plus song submissions, in September 2013 The Long And Short Of It travelled to Nashville Tennessee to record with Emmy award-winning producer Kenny Royster.
Kenny assembled a collection of high profile session musicians, including Dennis Holt (former drummer of Kansas), keyboardist Howard Duck (Keith Urban, Rascal Flatts), banjo/acoustic guitarist Bobby Terry (Brad Paisley, Tim McGraw), and lead & slide guitarist Pat Buchanan (Lynyrd Skynyrd, Kenny Chesney) to bring the album tracks to life.
The album’s first radio single, ‘Latter Day Cowboy’ peaked at #14 on the Country Tracks Top 40 – a first for the Melbourne-based duo – and the accompanying video clip was recently released. Check it out HERE
