TANYA SELF – TAMWORTH, WHITTLESEA, GATTON, CABOOLTURE AND BEYOND
Tanya Self returned to the Tamworth Country Music Festival for the first time in 10 years with a brand new album, 2014’s “Random Truths”. After each radio single achieved Top Ten success on the Country Tracks Top 40 chart including ‘The Jacaranda’ – the 1st single’s momentous eight weeks in the #1 spot, the Brisbane-based artist returned to the iconic annual festival.
Returning to the festival that she first attended back in 1995 and where she was crowned the famed Toyota Star Maker guaranteed a flood of wonderful memories. Those memories were no more abundant than when she was invited to perform as a special guest at the Toyota Star Maker Final 10 which is now back at the quest’s original home, the Tamworth Town Hall. At this event Tanya performed ‘Fallen Angel’ an album track that was co-written by Rick Price and deals with teen suicide and runaways.
Over the 10-day festival, the Golden Guitar winner performed at nine shows plus attended various promotional media commitments with Kix FM/Hot Country radio network, CAAMA radio network, CBAA network, Festival FM, 2TM, 88.9 FM, Casey Radio, The Tub and 2EC East Coast Radio. Plus a special guest co-host at Festival FM where she helped interview Brothers3, Mick Lindsay and fellow Toyota Star Maker winners Bob Corbett, Kaylee Bell and Jared Porter. Festival highlights included her album showcase where she was able to perform each track on “Random Truths” and past hit singles to both fans and media and ‘Writers In The Round’ that also featured 8 Ball Aitken and Brad Butcher.
And despite all the celebrations Tanya still took the opportunity to address an issue of great concern – domestic violence. Continuing to help raise awareness to both the cause, and the ‘White Ribbon’ pledge she spoke at length on ‘Breakie Central with JT’ on 2TM’s commercial arm 92.9FM.
For the first time Tanya performed at ‘Country In The Vines’ at the charming Kitty Crawford Estate along with Adam Harvey, Amber Lawrence, Roo Arcus and Travis Collins (and many others) with proceeds going to the Ronald McDonald House charities. ‘Country Music Cocktails’ – the event that kicks off the festival party in style was another first for Tanya where she joined the likes of husband and wife star duo O’Shea, dual Golden Guitar winners Jetty Road, Toyota Star Maker and Telstra Road To Discovery winner Kirsty Lee Akers and home-town Golden Guitar winner Ashleigh Dallas.
‘Mischief (Your Backsides’ Gonna Pay)’, the third radio single to be lifted from the ARIA-charting album “Random Truths”, continues to garnish airplay on country programs and networks around Australia including KIX FM/Hot Country where the single is currently #16 on The All-Australian Top 20 http://www.hottestcountry.com.au/
Tanya barely had time to unpack her bags before she headed off to the Whittlesea Country Music Festival – there she performed at the Twilight Concert on Saturday Feb 7th in the company of Mark Seymour of legendary Australia band Hunters & Collectors. The festival attracted 4500 people commemorating the loss of 173 from the Whittlesea district during the Black Saturday Victorian bushfires of 2009.
Later this month Tanya will perform at the Lights On The Hill Memorial Convoy in Gatton QLD to honour truck drivers who have lost their lives on the highway or by other means, along with Adam Brand, McAlister Kemp, Paul Costa and Jayne Denham. Early May sees Tanya back at Urban Country in the Songwriters Café along with 2014 Toyota Star Maker Grand Finalist, Dana Hassall and ultimate winner, Mickey Pye.
